T-Mac, that's who. This year Tracy McGrady gets a new ride that's made for him and bears his name. And like T-Mac the player, T-Mac the shoe delivers on the court.

figure 1. You can see here that the shell-toe extension wraps only around the lateral side of the adidas T-Mac, providing the shoe with an interesting asymmetrical design. Note that the shell-toe is not just a design element, it also provides several functional benefits.

figure 3. Here you can tell that the material used at the forefoot of the adidas T-Mac is different from that used for the body of the shoe. Both are synthetic materials, but the material at the forefoot is shiny and has the feel of vinyl, while the material used for the body of the shoe looks and feels very much like leather. The use of synthetics means that the upper should not stretch with wear, a definite plus.

figure 4. A last look at the adidas T-Mac. I have to admit that I did not like the look of the shoe when I first saw it, primarily because of the black/royal color combination (which corresponds to Tracy McGrady's team colors). But after a few days of testing I came to like the distinctive look of the shoe. For those who are less adventurous, forthcoming colorways of the T-Mac may be more appealing.

figure 2. Here the shell-toe design of the adidas T-Mac is clearly visible as it extends out from the toe and wraps around the lateral side of the shoe, finally ending the midfoot where it blends into the Torsion structure. Note, also, the squared-off toe-box, which adds to the overall comfort of the shoe.

At top is the adidas T-Mac in white/white. In the middle and just above are two views of the adidas T-Mac in silver/black, which is the colorway that Tracy McGrady wore in the All-Star game.

Look Ma, No Laces: The highly anticipated adidas T-MAC 4 will feature a new, laceless fit system called HUG.
