figure 1. This view of the AND 1 KG Low should be familiar to anyone who's seen the AND 1 KG Mid. The shoes share the same midsole and outsole. As on the KG Mid, the outsole of the KG Low provides excellent traction.

weight:*18.4 oz
* based on a Men's U.S. size 11. For comparison, a can of soda weighs 13 oz.
list price: $79.99
colorways: white/navy/silver (as tested), white/royal/silver, white/carolina/navy, white/red/silver, white/orange/silver, white/gold/green, black/silver, black/red, and more, use: hoops, indoor and outdoor, position: all, key technologies: Duraspring inserts (forefoot and heel), TPU support cage, release date: winter 2003, pros: comfortable, generally good fit, excellent heel fit, good impact protection, good traction, should be very durable
cons: bulky feel all-around, clunky feel underfoot, minimal clearance in the toebox, middling court and cushioning feel, not as much support at the ankle as you'd expect given its cut and the amount of padding around the ankle, poor ventilation results in excessive heat build-up

figure 2. Here you can see that the AND 1 The Rise Mid's support cage is symmetrical, extending over both the lateral and medial sides of the shoe.

figure 3. In this shot you can see the curvature under the heel of the AND 1 The Rise Mid. AND 1 calls this "Springz Geometry" and it's meant to help stabilize the rearfoot on impact by allowing the midsole to partially collapse under the center of pressure, while its sides continue to cradle the perimeter of the heel.

figure 1. Here's a good look at the outsole of the AND 1 The Rise Mid. On the upside, it provides good traction and should hold up for the long haul — even through outdoor wear. But on the downside, it imparts a clunky feel.
